A new bathhouse is coming to the East Boston Camps after an announcement last week that Cummings Properties would be donating $100,000 to the project.

After raising approximately $70,000 since 2009 for the building, which would serve as an area for camp users to wash themselves, the new donation brings the project nearly up to its funding goal.

“We are absolutely elated, we’ve been working hard to get this bathhouse built and this will get us almost to the goal line,” says Friends of East Boston Camps president Denise Brunelle. “This literally just saved us years of work (in fundraising efforts).”

The grant is part of Cummings Properties “$100k for 100” program, which provided $100,000 to 100 local charities in towns where Cumming owns apartment buildings as well as where its employees live, most notably in Middlesex and Essex Counties.

Eric Anderson, executive vice president of Cummings Properties and Westford resident, was pleased that this year the East Boston Camps could become one of those hundred recipients, which also included over a hundred entries that were not chosen.

“If you look at all those applications, all of them are worthy,” says Anderson. “There are so many out there.”

The official announcement of all 100 winners will be made on June 2.

More information on the 100k for 100 program can be found on the Cummings Foundation website.
