The Westford Willows are about to conclude the first month of their 2014 Central New England Baseball Association campaign and they can only hope the second one is better.

After a quick 3-0 start, the group of off-season collegiate players have cooled off, dropping to eighth place with a 7-9-1 overall record as of June 18.

That lone tie was to Acton on May 27, with three wins coming against Worcester, two more against Ronnie’s, one against South Central and one against Reading.

This year’s squad features Westford natives Zach Robins, Will Alden, Ryan Thompson, Andrew Chandler, Alex Cloutier and Matt Simeone as well as a variety of other college players from across New England.

They will face off next against Shrewsbury at 6 p.m. on Friday at Westford Academy, followed by a 12 p.m/2:15 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday against Framingham, also at Westford Academy.
