The J.V. Fletcher Library has plenty of programs that include samplings of food for guests, but four times a year one program discusses the finer points of potentially making that food.
Recently the library held its quarterly Cookbook Book Club, looking at “The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food From My Frontier” by Ree Drummond, discussing its recipes as well as making some for guests to try.
The club meeting was just the latest in a series last year that sprang from the mind of J.V. Fletcher children’s librarian Jackie Dibble.
From there, Director of Adult Programs Kristina Leedburg just picked up Dibble’s idea and ran with it, often needing to request additional copies of selected books from nearby libraries.
“We just can’t keep copies of those books on the shelves,” said Leedburg. “Attendance at these events have been fairly steady.”
The Pioneer Woman Cooks event held a lively discussion on the art of cooking as discussed in the book as well as a few items prepared by participants ranging from whiskey meatballs to the Sloppy Joe sliders prepared by Diana Bard.
“I love coming here,” says Bard. “It’s a non-judgmental atmosphere where I can talk about food.”
More information on the event as well as other adult programs offered by the library is on the adult programs page of the library’s website.
