Household Hazardous Waste Collection Saturday November 8th

Chemical-based materials such as cleaners, solvents and insecticides are classified as Hazardous Waste and not accepted in your weekly trash.  Often these materials lurk for months, if not years, in a corner of your basement – now is the time to gather them up and dispose of them properly.

DSC_0003On Saturday, November 8th from 9 AM to 1 PM, the Westford Recycling Commission will sponsor a Household Hazardous Waste collection at the town Highway Garage, 28 North Street. There is a $20 fee per car. Checks preferred, payable to “Town of Westford, MA”. Proof of Westford residency is required.

 

Accepted: acids, adhesives, aerosols & antifreeze. Batteries: lead acid (car, motorcycle, tractor), hearing aid, nicad rechargeable, and lithium. Brake fluid, drain and toilet cleaners, insecticides and pesticides, lighter fluid, mercury and mercury containing products (thermostats, thermometers), oil based paints, roofing tar, spot removers, stains, paint thinners and strippers, solvents and varnishes, transmission fluid, kerosene, gasoline, motor oil, weed killers and wood preservatives.

 

NOT accepted: alkaline batteries, prescription medicines, latex paint, fluorescent light bulb tubes and compact fluorescents, propane tanks, electronics, commercial waste, construction waste, biological waste, syringes, explosives, ammunition, fireworks, asbestos, and PCB’s.
