WYBA High School Girls Rec Basketball

Game Reports for Week Starting: December 22, 2014

Red Hot Chili Peppers 23 vs. Dolphins 21

Using a balanced scoring attack led by Julia Gabriel with seven points and Yamini Kumar with six, the Pink Hot Chili Peppers defeated the Dolphins 32-21 on Monday night.   Cassie Bernardo brought her infectious enthusiasm, tenacious defense, and press-breaking dribbling, and finished with four points. Kene Orakwue contributed five points, Kayleigh McHugh and Amy Doucette had four points each, and Meghana Yellanki added two. The Dolphins were led by another Julia, Julia Swanson, with 14 points, and a strong second half by Hannah Chateauneuf with six. Hannah also led the Dolphin’s tough second half defense until fouling out in the final minute. Emerald Robinson added a free -throw to complete the scoring.

Fireballs 38 vs. Hollaback Girlz 26

This was a fiercely competitive game, with the final score not reflecting how close the game was. Leah Bushey, Cory Mains and Katie Fitzsimmons let the Fireballs’ offense, while Emily Peronne and Hannah Kruger pitched in with strong defense. For the Hollaback’s Katie Ross led the scoring with 13 points, followed by Caroline Dolan (9) and Lauren Cullen/Kynza Khimani with two each. A tough game the whole way.

Hippies 30 vs. Blue Flames 28

In a game that was every bit as close as the score indicated, the Hippies pulled out a last minute win over the Blue Flames. Megan Lawlor led all scorers with 12 points, supported by Jessie Wilkinson and McKenna Watson for the Blue Flames. The Hippies showed a real team effort with Bridget Allison, Sam Wylie and Morgan Dougherty all contributing six points. The game featured strong shooting, with both Jessie Wilkinson and Ali Loftus hitting clutch three point shots.
