In February, Westford’s unemployment rate was 4 percent, and in March 2014, it was 4.8 percent.

Westford’s neighboring towns also did well as Carlisle (3.4 percent), Littleton (3.6 percent), Groton (3.6 percent) and Acton (3.5 percent) outpaced Westford and Chelmsford (4 percent) stayed close despite six thousand more members in their workforce.

Among Westford’s neighbors, only Tyngsborough (4.7 percent) was close to the state average of 5 percent.

Statewide, Provincetown had the highest unemployment rate at 27.4 percent while Brookline’s unemployment rate was only 2.4 percent.

Other municipalities with a 3.7 percent unemployment rate in March included Shrewsbury, Marblehead and Shutesbury.
