In addition to hearing from Secretary Francisco Ureña of the Department of Veterans’ Services Affairs and Michael C. Johns, President of MVSOA, the 150 veteran service agents gather each year from across the Commonwealth for training and certification in order to assist both resident and returning Massachusetts veterans.   Arciero’s remarks focused both on his family’s history of military service and on legislation, House Bill 3126, the so-called Veterans Higher Education Opportunity Bill, which he sponsored to waive the fee and tuition of any Massachusetts veteran attending a public community college, state college or state university.    The measure seeks to restore benefits to veterans as the cost of fees for a public secondary education has risen over the decades.   Tuition has been waived for veterans for 25 years, but this has become a much smaller part of the overall cost of attending a public institution of higher education.   The measure has bipartisan support and is co-sponsored by over 60 other legislators.
