Tough Week For Willows, But Continued Success For Westford In The Northeast League

The Westford Willows had a gamut of results recently, but a number of losses took their toll and the team saw itself drop from fourth to sixth in the Central New England Baseball Association standings.

On June 18, Westford faced Clinton and suffered a sizable 6-1 loss only to find redemption on the 20th during their double header against Vermont.

In that doubleheader, the Willows earned a pair of victories, but that’s when their luck ran out.

Westford lost to Shrewsbury on both June 24 and 25, first 12-1 and then 3-1.

Then on the 27th, they suffered another defeat to Framingham, 6-1.

The Willows will be looking to rebound with an early July homestand against Lunenburg, Framingham and a Fourth of July doubleheader against the Brooklyn Bonnies.

While Westford’s college baseball players may have been stumbling, local high school phenoms honing their skills in the Northeast League have been doing the opposite as of late.

After a shaky start against Dracut, losing 4-3, Westford soon picked up their act, beating Lowell Catholic 3-2, Tewksbury 10-0, and Chelmsford 2-1.

Their winning streak came to an end on June 25 when Westford lost to Methuen 2-1, but they turned it around with wins against Wilmington and Lynnfield.

Westford will look to continue their streak July 2 against North Reading at North Reading High School.   They begin July second in the North Division against Dracut.
