The school year will begin in just a few weeks and at Westford Academy, a new environmental program will begin as well.

Students were joined by faculty members and area residents back on campus last week preparing for a new composting program to take place at the Academy.

The initiative is being spearheaded by the Westford Academy Environmental Club and the Westford Agricultural Commission’s Compost Working Group.

Leaves from the Westford Academy grounds and around town will be merged with food scraps to create compost, which can be used in the school’s vegetable garden, landscaping beds and lawns.
