Firefighters Provide Aid During September I-495 Hazmat Incident

The following information came from the Westford Fire Department.

Sept. 8, 1:23 p.m. – The Fire Department received a complaint from the Westford Regency Hotel regarding a contractor who had pulled power and phone lines nearby after a fire alarm went off inside the hotel.

Firefighters were on scene until the fire alarm notice could be returned to normal, a power generator was used by the hotel until things returned to normal.

Sept. 9, 6:20 a.m. – A fire engine unit was dispatched for reported smoke at Nardone Industrial Estates on Powers Road.

Upon arrival, a 3’x3’ area of mulch was smoldering. It was extinguished using 200 gallons of water.

Sept. 9, 7:01 p.m. – First responders were called to Forrest Road after reports of a small brush fire. Upon arrival, the fire was found in an area of grass underneath a utility pole.

National Grid officials were notified.

Sept. 11, 7:07 a.m. – Three units were dispatched to I-495 Southbound for a possible Hazmat incident following a collision involving a pickup truck and a tractor trailer truck.

The tractor trailer truck was in the breakdown lane when it was hit by the truck. According to the owner of the trailer, leaking oxygen and propylyne cylinders inside the trailer had been shut off prior to the Fire Department’s arrival and moved to a safe area.

The driver of the pickup truck refused medical treatment.

Sept. 12, 10:37 a.m. – A resident on Phillips Drive called the Fire Department after an issue with his carbon monoxide detector. No carbon monoxide problems were found, but the detector required replacement.
