Nashoba Grizzlies Recap From The First Weekend of November

Nashoba U10 Girls

The Girls U10 team lost a tough one against the Norwood Nuggets with a final score of 9-2.  With only 8 girls available to play, the Grizzlies had an uphill battle against this Norwood team which boasted a roster of 14.  Zoe Musante once again played a tremendous game both on offense and defense.  She scored both of the Grizzlies goals unassisted.  Despite the final score, goalie Mackenzie Donoghue also played an excellent game, making a number of impressive saves.  The Grizzlies next game is against Melrose on November 11 at 8:00 a.m. at Nashoba Valley Olympia.

Nashoba U12 Girls

The Girls U12’s won in impressive fashion by a score of 4-2 against a spirited Andover team. Aishani Pathak led all scorers with a hat trick while Emma O’Regan added a 3rd period goal that turned out to be the game winner. Alex McLaughlin was solid in net including a late sprawling save that had the Andover team scratching their heads. The defense corps of Julia Schuster, Gianna Furia and Audrey Bruskiewitz limited Andover’s chances while Kate Johnson and Katie Jackson kept the puck in Andover’s end for much of the game.

Nashoba U14 Girls

Nashoba U14 Girls beat the Natick Comets with a 1-0 Shutout, Allie Kingsley in net for the Grizzlies.

Nashoba Squirt A

In a double-header weekend, the Nashoba Squirt A team finished 1-1.   Saturday, the team fell to Brookline 2-4.  Brookline opened the scoring with 3 goals.  Nathan LoConte scored both goals for Nashoba.  He scored his first goal with a minute 30 left in the first period assisted by Murphy MacLeod in the defensive zone. In the second period, Nathan again scored assisted by both Ronan McGowan and Damian DiNitto.  Cameron Joos had another outstanding game in goal.   Steve Ready kept the pressure on offensively.

The Squirts were back at it Sunday morning facing Stoneham early in the morning.  In the first period, Murphy MacLeod scored first for the Grizzlies with an assist from Charles Becker.  Stoneham answered with a goal to end the period tied 1-1. The second period remained tied after many attempts by Ethan Koehr and Nathan LoConte but both the Stoneham goalie and our own Cameron Joos kept the game close with some outstanding saves. In the final period, Owen Boyer received an assist from Murphy MacLeod on defense, battled 2 defenders to score the winning goal!  Cameron Joos had another great showing in goal with 24 saves, 46 for the weekend.  Kieran Humphreys and Jack Borges were a solid line of defense.  Matthew Loyall made his debut in center, winning many face-offs for the Grizzlies.

 

 

 

Nashoba Squirt AA

The Grizzlies Squirt AA had a big 8-2 win over Great Lowell

Nashoba Squirt AAA

Nashoba Squirt AAA lose tough game against SMS 7-3.  The game began evenly matched with both goalies making some great saves, but one sneaks by Nashoba’s goalie Jon Doherty at the end of the first for a 1-0 SMS lead.  The second period opened up with the Grizzlies looking lively!  Center Jack Funaro makes a great pass to Cam Daly who muscles his way to the net and shoots the puck over the goalie’s shoulder to tie the game.  Seconds later off the face off, Will Gaynor used his speed to go around 3 SMS players to score giving the Grizzlies a 2-1 lead.  Nashoba forwards Ben Solari, Drew Kapetanakis, Devin Marshall and Ben Logan played well in the second period as did defensive pairs Matty Mulhern/Jack Nelken and Nate Mucci/Daniel Son.  SMS retaliated with a goal to tie the game at the end of the second period.  The third period opened with Doherty getting a work out and making several great saves.  Gaynor grabbed a rebound off of Doherty and raced the puck up ice, took it wide and slid a perfect pass across the crease to Jack Funaro who put it past the goalie 3-2 Nashoba.  Up by a goal with 4:45 to play in the third, The Grizzlies get too comfortable and allow SMS to score two quick goals to take the lead.  With the wind out of their sails, Nashoba can’t get their game together and wind up losing 7-3.

 

Nashoba Pee Wee A

The Nashoba Pee Wee A team played two tough games over the weekend and dropped both.  Jack Rechtsteiner, Dean Blake, and Jake Power scored goals with Koree Benning and Jack Reimer adding helpers.  Colin Hoar, Wilson Homer, Alex D’Amato, Henry Wengal, Alex Joos, Kailas Balasubramanyam worked hard on offense while Adam Prato, Nolan Marcoux, Connor Hoague, and Aidan Brady played strong on defense.   Jared Simas was stellar between the pipes and made several great saves.

Nashoba Pee Wee AA

The Nashoba Peewee AA Grizzlies had two big wins over the weekend. The Nashoba Peewee AA Grizzlies fought to the very end in a 4-3 win over the Natick Peewee AA Comets. Tending net in his first play-up and win for a Peewee team was Squirt A goalie, Tyler Santosuosso. Tyler stopped 9 shots over the three periods and was helped with our defensive lines of Meghan Mulhern, Will Donovan, Matty Haggan and Justin Liona. Starting off the scoring for Nashoba at 6:54 in the 1st period was Meghan Mulhern assisted by Justin Liona. Natick came back with a goal in the 1st and another in the 2nd to move ahead 2-1. Next up for Nashoba was Scotty McCabe with the 2-2 tying goal at 3:19 in the 2nd period. Natick came back with a goal to go 3-2 with 7 minutes left in the 3rd period. Nashoba wouldn’t let that stop us. Justin Liona moved up to right wing and with a great feed assist from Dominic Marshall tied the game 3-3 at 3:53 in the 3rd. Not satisfied with just one goal, Liona flicked one in from a scrum in front of the net with just 1:30 left in the game to seal the win. Also contributing with solid passing and offensive zone dominance were Pete Bonenfant, Kyle Doney, Matty Mulhern and Kailen Richards.

Nashoba’s Peewee AA Grizzlies won another close one against the New England Edge Peewee AA, 3-2 on Sunday. Scoring 1st for the Grizzlies was Scotty McCabe assisted by Meghan Mulhern at 11:18 in the first period. Scoring his first goalie of the season with a strong shot from the blue line was defenseman, Gannon Connelly, at 2:14 in the first period. The final goal which ended up being the game winner came again from McCabe assisted by Kyle Doney right at the buzzer at the end of the first period. The Edge wouldn’t give up the game so easy sneaking two tough shots past goalie Allison Kingsley in the 3rd period. Thanks to some great passing and defensive play from Kailen Richards, Peter Bonenfant, Nathan Ely, Dominic Marshall, Nathan Lux, Will Donovan, Matty Haggan and Justin Liona, the Grizzlies captured the win bringing our season record to 9-1.

 

Nashoba Bantam AA

The Nashoba Grizzlies Bantam AA had two big wins over the weekend. The Grizzlies shutout Medford 3-0 on Saturday and beat Triboro Bantam AA 3-2 this past Sunday Next game is Saturday, November 14th against Lynnfield-Saugus.

Nashoba Grizzlies Bantam AAA Topples Twin City 3-2The grizzlies fought through an evenly matched game to grind out the win. Triumphant, the win will currently has Nashoba a-top the leader-board in the Valley league standings. It was another strong performance by goalie Ben Canfield. Overall hustle and grit by the entire team was its continual backbone and strength of the victory. Padding their stats were Max Strong, Dan Cornetta, and Tim Kelleher, each lighting the lamp once. Helping out their efforts were Brian Ellis, and Sean Mizzoni, each with assists.
