Nashoba Youth Hockey

Squirt AAA

In their 2nd game of the year, the Squirt AAA Grizzlies skated hard but came up a bit short against a fast and determined SMS team, logging a 5-2 loss.  Nashoba Goalie, Tyler Santosuosso was able to stop 14 of the 15 shots on goal to end the 1st period with SMS on top, 1-0. SMS scored in the first minute of the 2nd, answered by Nashoba’s Jack Parradee who beat the SMS Goalie as the defense converged on him. Throughout the 2nd period Nashoba peppered the SMS goalie with several quality shots and strong team play as they moved the puck well through all 3 zones. In the 3rd, SMS widened the gap with 3 additional goals…despite Tyler Santosuosso’s 11 saves. With less than two minutes left in the third period, Ben Svoboda sprung Nathan LoConte who deeked the goalie and went top shelf.

Peewee A

Nashoba PeeWee A season got off to a bit of a shaky start. Despite some great saves by goaltender Charles B., AB had a 2-0 start going into the 2nd period and by the start of the 3rd the score was in favor of AB 5-2. Nashoba’s 2 goals coming from Ronan M. with assist on the 2nd coming from Riley M. & Henry S. The team did not give up once and continued to skate had having their strongest effort come in the 3rd period. 2 goals by Jocelyn S. assisted by Damian D. brought Nashoba down by 1. Despite their late effort and pulling the goalie with 1:20 left on the clock they could not get the tying goal. If the team continues to keep this effort and drive alive for the rest of the season, I’m sure it will be a great experience for all.

Despite having a VERY early start the Nashoba PeeWee A team came out strong. The late drive they showed the day before carried into this game putting the first 2 goals on the board. Andover tied it up late at the end of a power play at the start of the 3rd but this did not discourage the team. With strong goal tending by Charles B. and great team work by Jocelyn S.,Henry S., Jarod D.,Anna W., Ronan M., and Carley W.,  all of whom  had goals or assists this game. It was great to see how well everyone played as a true team either setting up shots, making great passes and defending the goal in their own zone. Keep up the good work and we will have a great season.

Peewee AA

Peewee AA skated hard, short handed against a tough Andover squad. Shots by Blake, D’Amato , Laquidara and Reimer were stopped by a very well protected goalie. Our own goalie Jared semas did an outstanding job being shot at a total of 47 times. We will continue to practice hard and improve as the team looks forward to the next challenge.

Peewee AAA

Nashoba kept it a one-goal game through two periods but ran out of gas in the third and fell 4-1.  Jack Funaro scored down low off of great passing from Tommy Rose and Matt Wing with under three minutes remaining to deny Acton-Boxboro a shutout.   Defensemen Tyler Frazee, Daniel Son and Matty Mulhern blocked numerous shots and passes throughout the contest.   The Grizzlies put 12 shots on net, and goalie Jon Doherty had 19 saves in the loss.

Matty Mulhern picked a clearing attempt out of mid-air at the blue line, evaded a defender and fired a nice wrist shot past the Lowell goalie in the second period.   However this was the only time the Grizzlies would find the net and they came up short 3-1.  Matt Haggan, Michael Faia and Dom Marshall kept up the offensive pressure while Will Donovan, Jack Nelken and Daniel Son were very effective on D. Nashoba put 14 shots on goal. Goalie Jon Doherty had a season-high 32 saves in net.

Bantam AAA

The Bantam AAA team played a little catch-up after a tough 1st period with 3 goals scored against us. The boys came out stronger in the 2nd with our first goal scored by Nathan Lux and assisted by Henry Hayes at 7:26. Nashoba’s second goal was scored by Brandon Bailey assisted by Lux on a power play at 2:51 in the 3rd. Final score: Nashoba 2-5 Dedham.

Midget AA

Aidan Timlin, Jonathan Magee, Robert Smith and Matt Gould held down the blue line for Nashoba, and goaltender Joe Cornetta turned away all 18 shots he faced for a big shutout win.   The Grizzlies are now 3-0 and Cornetta has lowered his GAA to 0.67.   Josh Doherty scored four times including once shorthanded, Donald Walk scored twice, and Dan Cornetta scored another. Ryan O’Regan, Kyle King, Dan Paxton, and Nikolos Perivolotis all piled up shots as the Grizzlies put 35 of them on net.

Nashoba consistently controlled all three zones in this game and skated off with a big 8-1 win.   Defensemen Sean Mizzoni, Aidan Timlin, Matt Gould and Buddy Smith were able to keep the puck well away from goalie Joe Cornetta, yielding only six shots on net.  Ryan O’Regan scored twice, including one on a great backhander while being covered down low.   Jonathan Magee, Dan Paxton, Aidan Timlin and Brendan Lemieux also scored, and Josh Doherty had two.   The Grizzlies had 37 shots in total.
