Westford Jr. Ghosts Unlimited A Team 32, Cambridge 26
Scoring touchdowns for Westford were, Ryan Battle, Sean Brown, Craig Palmer and Luke Wauford. Sean Brown was 4 for 4 on extra point kicks. Ryan Battle, Nate Fischer and Nate Arsenault played great defense. Sean Brown also had an interception for Westford. The Ghosts travel to Lowell to play the Red Raiders on Sunday.
Westford Jr. Ghosts B Team 26, Lexington 7
On a beautiful fall day with nothing but clear skies, the Jr. Ghosts B team showed they could score points on both offense and defense. Most of the damage was done by Mikey Kennedy who scored 3 touchdowns.
The Ghosts struck first with a 25-yard pass and run from Mikey Kennedy to Elliot Kane. Kane had a tough time getting to the end zone but it was a great second effort that allowed him to get to the promised land. QB Kyle Murray was able to score the extra point with a quick run to the left and a nice cut-back.
Lexington answered quickly with a 70-yard TD and extra point, but Westford countered with Kennedy’s 20-yard touchdown scamper up the right. Minutes later Kennedy intercepted a Lexington pass and ran it back 60 yards for a touchdown. Ryan Walsh added the extra point.
Lexington got the ball back and tried to pass again with some success. But just when things starting going well for Lexington they had yet another pass intercepted by Kennedy, who ran for a 90-yard touchdown. The Jr. Ghost’s Jack Gould tried to run the ball in for the extra point but was tackled just before getting to the end zone.
Westford’s defense was dominant with strong tackling by Cole Stickel, Tadgh Murray, Bode Hester and Alex Ciulla, just to name a few. Mike Wikum and Kyle Murray also had solid runs on offense.
Next week, the Ghosts travel to Wilmington for a 12:30 game.
Westford C Team 13, Lexington-Bedford-Hanscom 0
Westford’s Jr. Ghost C Team played an intense game against Lexington on Sunday and walked away with the win, leaving their perfect season intact. Captains for the day were Henry Babineau, Drew Wilson, Michael Picanso, Daniel Hickey and Jake Moore.
In the first half, Luke Reynolds completed several passes including a touchdown pass to Ethan Ewing to get on the scoreboard. Wilson was overpowering on defense with intense pressure on the Lexington QB and several punishing tackles. His intensity incited defensive linemen Sam Brewster, Michael Faia, Daniel Hickey, Aidan Murphy and Peter Burdin to force several turnovers. Tyler Murray was another major force on defense with a mass of ruthless tackles.
Picanso was crucial in the second half. His strength on the defensive line contributed to a key turnover in Lexington territory. Reynolds showed his agility when he scrambled around the Lexington defense and dashed into the end zone for Westford’s second touchdown. CJ Schuster, Conor Moncreaff and Oliver McDonald worked to keep Lexington offense from advancing up the field and maintain the shutout before the final whistle.
Westford will aim to remain undefeated next week in Lowell next Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
Westford Jr. Ghosts D Team 34, Lexington-Bedford-Hanscom Raiders 6
The Jr. Ghosts Pop Warner Jr. Pee Wee Team unleashed a balanced offensive attack to power past the Raiders 34-6 in a home game played at Westford Academy.
With the win, the Jr. Ghosts extended its record to a division-leading 6-0 with just two games remaining in the regular season.
Westford broke out of the gate early, scoring on its just its second play from scrimmage when Bobby MacCormack sliced through the Lexington defense for a 60-yard run. Tommy Galvin reeled in the extra point to bring the score to 7-0.
Kaden Silton plunged up the middle for Westford’s second score, knifing through a hole opened by excellent line blocking from Faith Williams, Jack Herrmann, Dominic Scaffardi and Ben Schaffer.
Lexington’s offense tested Westford early by using a power running attack between the tackles that initially looked like a winning strategy. The Jr. Ghosts responded with solid defensive play by Tanner Whitehouse, Quinn Reynolds, Thurman Hargrove, Mason Bergeron, Christopher Fahlman, and Alex Wilson.
Lexington managed to connect on a long touchdown strike in the second quarter but MacCormack uncorked two more long touchdown runs, one in the second quarter and another in the third. Westford’s Andrew Stodden added another touchdown run near the end of third quarter to seal the win for the Jr. Ghosts.
The Jr. Ghosts are at Lowell next Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
