Just in time for the cold weather, the Automotive Technology technical program at Nashoba Valley Technical High School is offering a free winter check for any vehicle it services.
Residents of Nashoba Tech’s eight district towns — Ayer, Chelmsford, Groton, Littleton, Pepperell, Shirley, Townsend and Westford — can bring their cars to Nashoba Tech for repair “at very discounted rates,” according to instructor Joshua Morin, and get the winter check at no extra cost.
The auto-repair shop at Nashoba Tech is “run like a real auto shop for members of the community,” Morin said, adding that it provides “a great service for the community, and it gives the students some real-life opportunities to service vehicles.”
He said students are able to repair “everything from brakes, shocks and struts to general repairs and diagnostic checks.”
This is Morin’s first year at Nashoba Tech, joining longtime instructor Richard Karamanian, but not his first year teaching. He is an Automotive Service Excellence certified master technician and has taught for 11 years at high schools and colleges, in addition to working as a shop foreman for an auto dealership. He received his Associate’s Degree in Business from Wyoming Technical Institute.
Morin said he prefers training the next generation of auto mechanics over working in an auto-repair shop because of the training he received at a vocational-technical high school.
“That why I have such a connection with vocational schools — because I’m a product of one,” he said.
