An informational meeting organized by a member of the Drew Gardens Task Force drew a crowd of at least 30 to the Parish Center for the the Arts on Sunday, Feb. 26.
Juliette Mount, who served on the 13-member task force throughout last spring and summer, is an opponent of a Groton developer’s efforts to change a land restriction at 66 Boston Road. The developer wants to build a farm-to-table restaurant on 3 of 9 acres.
The task force was charged with recommending to selectmen whether to support developer Ebrahim Masalehdan’s push to amend one of three Agricultural Preservation Restrictions. Some task force members stated that retaining the restriction, which would permit only agricultural use, is impractical in today’s economy. Those members said farming the land is not financially viable.
Mount disagreed and took a leadership role in opposing the proposed amendment.
Sunday’s meeting was designed to encourage voters to deny a citizen’s petition for the March 25 annual Town Meeting filed by Masalehdan’s attorney. The petition seeks to amend the APR.
