The J. V. Fletcher Library’s Westford Job Seekers Network meets weekly on Wednesdays from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Expand your network of business contacts, discover new job opportunities and connect with others who are similarly experiencing job transition. Meetings include guest speakers who are experts in the job search process or in career development. Bring your resume and elevator speech and start networking!
During the month of March the Library – in collaboration with the SBA (the U. S. Small Business Administration) – is hosting a special “Start Your Own Business” workshop series. Pre-registration is required is required for the series at: https://www.sba.gov/offices/district/ma/boston. The schedule of dates and times is as follows:
- March 8: “Preparing to Finance a New Business” presented in collaboration with ACCION (an SBA Microlender)
- March 15: “Starting and Growing a Business – The SBA Advantage” presented by SBA
- March 22: “Women’s History Month” – we’ll celebrate the accomplishments of women and their many contributions to our communities
- March 29: “Opening Doors to Government Contracting” presented in collaboration with Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC)
- April 5: “Your Business Plan: Soup to Nuts” in collaboration with Salem State Small Business Development Center (SBDC)

Teen and Tween Make & Take Mondays: Monday, March 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Imagine, create, and participate! Each Monday teens will participate in a variety of hands-on activities that will include making fun, seasonal crafts, exploring STEAM activities, and/or creating one-of-a-kind masterpieces. All materials will be provided at the program in the Library’s Meeting Room. This is a free, drop-in event. Registration not required. This Month: 3/6 Crayon Candles, 3/13 St. Patty’s Pi Day, 3/20 Peep Catapults and Chocolate Mice, and 3/27 Waterslides and Vinegar Rockets.
V. Fletcher Adult Book Discussion Group: Thursday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. Join us to discuss Bill Bryson’s, A Short History of Nearly Everything. We will also spend part of the meeting discuss our February selection, The Forgetting Time. February’s meeting was cancelled due to a snow storm. Copies of the current month’s selection are available for check out at the Main Desk. New members are always welcome!
Knitting Group: Monday, March 13 and Monday, March 27 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Do you enjoy knitting? Our informal knitting group meets the second and fourth Monday of every month from 3 to 5 p.m. This is a drop-in program that is open to all ages. Adult Coloring Party: Thursday March 16 at 7 p.m. Are you looking for a new way to have fun and escape the stress of everyday life? Our adult coloring parties are on the third Thursday of each month. Enjoy some time coloring and light refreshments. We provide ALL of the materials and you get a couple of hours to relax and enjoy the latest coloring trend for adults. No registration required.
Cookbook Book Club: Tuesday, March 21 at 7 p.m. Please join us to discuss The Way to Cook, by Julia Child and to sample a recipe or two! Featured Staff Book Pick, “Results May Vary” by Bethany Chase, recommended by Judy Madsen. Is it shallow to pick out the book you are going to read based on its cover? Perhaps, but I was also swayed by bestselling author Emily Giffin’s declaration [that Chase is] “a great new voice in fiction.” The heroine, Caroline, a Museum curator in a small college town in the Berkshires, never saw it coming. “It” being the affair that her husband is having with another man – a revelation that forces Caroline to question their entire history together. In her now upside-down world, Caroline begins envisioning her life without the relationship that has defined it; facing as well the crushing idea of being an “I” instead of a “we.” Caroline’s emotional journey is the heart of the book, but the plot is engaging as well due to the family and friends who people Caroline’s life and her passion for the arts. Ultimately, Caroline, who always thought she knew her own love story, must decide whether that story’s ending will mean forgiving the man she’s loved for half her life, or facing her future without him. And the book’s cover, it proved not to be a “shallow” guide after all.
