LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Vote for Almeida for Selectman

I’m feeling moved to share about a candidate that I know and love, who is running for selectman on May 2, Elizabeth Almeida.

I have had the good fortune of meeting Elizabeth years ago at her business, Fat Moon Farm. My kids and I instantly fell in love with the idea she was cultivating at Fat Moon, not just growing things in Westford’s ground, but in the minds and hearts of those that graced the land she nurtured. The farm came to life in a magical way, and we couldn’t get there enough.

More recently, Fat Moon has morphed into a successful gourmet mushroom business, and it is fascinating to have witnessed the process of Elizabeth going from not knowing a thing about mushrooms to becoming a major supplier to many local restaurants and customers. (Watch out for a farmer with an MBA, she’s unstoppable!)

While growing Fat Moon in it’s various forms from the ground up, Elizabeth simultaneously led the town’s Agricultural Commission, and subsequently the creation of the Westford Community Gardens, which feeds and inspires more and more Westfordians each season, donating thousands of pounds of fresh food to those in need.

It’s hard not to get excited about things that Elizabeth is involved in, and this run for selectman is no exception. Crunching numbers, researching, speaking her mind, listening to others, keeping an open mind to differing opinions, drawing fair conclusions, these are all things that Elizabeth does, and does well. — Jess Anderson, Woods Pond Drive
