Vandals smashed the windows of two cars in the parking lot of Goldfish Swim School, July 28, and made off with purses that were apparently visible from outside the vehicle.

The thefts are not isolated incidents in Westford, according to Police Captain Ronald Paulauskas.

Paulauskas said smash-and-grab break-ins have been far from uncommon in town over the past two years. Businesses in town such as Boost Fitness and One Stop Fun have also dealt with car vandalism in the past.

“We have had a couple breaks in the last couple years at other locations in town, but the Goldfish Swim School has had the most breaking and entering incidents into vehicles,” Paulaskas stated.

The swim school is in a secluded area on Lyberty Way.

Paulauskas advises motorists to exercise street smarts while parking their cars, making sure that their valuables are either with them, or locked away and out of sight in their cars.

“The suspects target purses that are left in vehicles, usually if they are visible from the exterior of the vehicle. The best practice is to not leave any valuables in your car while parked in any parking lot in town. If you must leave something in your vehicle, secure it in the trunk,” he stated.
