How is your eye area? This isn’t just for the ladies out there…

When we talk about skin care, the assumption is the subject is for women.  Increasingly, however, men are taking better care of their skin, and so it should be.

One universal caution when buying any creams, lotions and/or cosmetics or any personal care products for that matter is to please keep in mind that your skin is your largest organ;  it’s critical to your long term health that you use products made with good quality ingredients on your skin.  A general rule of thumb I use for myself is to note if it is promoted by a celebrity.  I also want to eye the packaging to see how fancy it is or how much of the quality I would like to see if the product has been substituted for swishy marketing.  If the packaging is really fancy or there is a high priced celebrity telling you to use it, I won’t go near it. Don’t you think that in this case, the money is more likely to be spent on the high priced spokesperson and the fancy packaging?

A few things to avoid when you read the ingredients label which I know you all do now.  Look for products that don’t contain parabens, phthalates, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), BHA, BHT, or formaldehyde.  There are others, but this will be a start.  These are mostly chemical preservatives or foaming agents, and they are not good for you.

In that spirit, I want to share with you an eye cream I have found that is so amazing I had to tell you about it.  I have terrible allergic issues with the skin around my eye area.  In fact, I have a drawer full of eye creams that made my eye area burn and itch, turn red and dry; totally not the goal.  Eventually they are used for hand cream or just emptied into the trash with the containers recycled.

The way I finally found an eye cream that not only doesn’t make me miserable, but actually does what it says it will do was to read the ingredient label and look for natural ingredients I could both recognize and pronounce. I looked for ingredients like Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Niacinamide, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, and quite a few other natural moisturizing ingredients.

I found one that I love so much, I will be ordering a refill soon, and it was affordable.  It’s entirely possible to take good care of your skin and not spend a fortune!

This is important for you men out there reading this as well.
