A 15-year-old Westford boy riding his bicycle along Plain Road was seriously injured by a motorist on July 31 at 8:50 p.m.

The driver stayed on the scene and called 9-1-1.

The boy was taken to Lowell General Hospital by the Westford Fire Department and then air lifted by helicopter to Tufts Medical Center.

Police Capt. Ron Paulauskas said the accident occurred at the intersection of Plain and Polley Roads. The accident prompted police to temporarily shut down Plain Road from Williams Avenue to Polley.

Paulauskas declined to identify the boy and said he had no information as to whether the boy was enrolled in a Westford public school.

Paulauskas said he had no information on where the boy was headed when he was struck.
