A blistering heat forecast for the start of school this week has prompted Superintendent Bill Olsen to call for half days on Aug. 29 and 30.

Westford schools do not have air conditioning and with an excessive heat value expected to reach 107 degrees until at least 9 p.m. on Aug. 30, according to the  National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Olsen is taking no chances.

Olsen alerted residents with a phone call that was broadcast to all who are registered to receive the robo calls.
