Ukulele Strum Along: Saturday, Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. Participants will learn to play by playing. Focusing on two and three chord songs, this program is for the beginner ukulele player who wants to practice and play music with others. Ukuleles are available to borrow. The songs are projected onto a screen so no music stands or books are necessary. This program is open to adults and teens. To borrow a ukulele, participants are asked to register online or in the Information Services Department. Those with their own instrument can drop in.

Adult Nonfiction Book Club: Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. The book club meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Mary Atwood Room. Dates and book titles can be found on the website and at the Information Desk. The Dec. 4 book discussion will be A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. Copies are available at Main Desk. Patrons need not register. This meeting will also be the annual book picking party.  Patrons are asked to bring suggestions for next year’s books.

 Lego® Club: Saturday, Dec. 8 from 2 to 3 p.m.  Kids will imagine, build, and create. The library will supply the Legos® and display space. All creations will be displayed in the library until the next meeting time. The program is for ages 5 and up with a parent or caregiver.

Christmas Traditions in Boston: Thursday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. In 1659 Massachusetts banned the celebration of Christmas. Residents can find out why from author Anthony Sammarco and his book, Christmas Traditions in Boston. He’ll outline the celebration (or lack thereof) of Christmas over two centuries, from the Puritans to the mid-19th century introduction of the Christmas tree to Jordan Marsh’s Enchanted Village. Residents can register online or in the Information Services Department.

J.V. Fletcher Adult Book Discussion Group: Thursday, Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Patrons will discuss The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley.  Copies of the current reading selection are available for check-out at the Main Desk. New members are always welcome. Patrons need not register. This meeting is also the annual title-picking party. Patrons are asked to bring book suggestions for 2019.
