“Main Street” host Joyce Pellino Crane interviews WestfordCAT board member Betsy Alvarez on the January launch of her show, “New Beginnings.”
An immigrant of Honduras, who came to the United States at age 15, Alvarez will use her show to tell her life story.
“It’s different in the sense that we’re trying to reach out to the human element and the struggles that people may have to face in life…we’ll have a series on immigration. We’ll have a series on personal stories…Health issues that people face and how they are able to reinvent themselves and start a new life.”
Alvarez speaks in both English and Spanish on the Main Street show and will do the same on her ‘New Beginnings’ show.
She tells Crane about the sudden and unexpected death of her first husband when he was only 27 years old. Their son was age 6.
Alvarez immersed herself in her studies and went on to get a college degree from Northeastern University. Eventually she found her way to Westford where her 5-year-old daughter attends school. She became a WestfordCAT volunteer last spring.
“WestfordCAT really gave me the opportunity to reinvent myself and my career. And gave me that opportunity to do what I’m doing and what I’m passionate about,” she said.
