Editor’s note: Water Department Superintendent Steve Cronin posted the following alert on Monday, Jan. 14:

“Water service to several residents of Cold Spring Road (near Blackthorn) may be temporarily shut off in order to make emergency repairs to a leaking water main. In addition, some residents on Cold Spring Road (within closer proximity to the break), Pierce, Sawmill, Blackthorn, and Fletcher may experience low water pressure or discolored water from naturally-occurring sediments stirred up within the main.
We anticipate service to be restored by afternoon, and appreciate our customer’s patience while we make the necessary repairs. Once repair work is completed we will update the Water Department website (westfordma.gov/water) accordingly.

If discoloration to your water occurs first verify that repair work is completed by checking the Water Department website or calling 978-692-5529. If you know that work is completed we recommend flushing a COLD water tap (preferably from a bathroom tub in order to avoid any sediment becoming trapped in a faucet aerator) until the water clears. This usually takes just a few minutes but sometimes can take up to 15-20 minutes. If discoloration does not go away, or if you have any questions please call the Water Department at 978-692-5529.”
