HOLIDAY HOURS: The Library will be open on Wednesday, July 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In honor of Independence Day the Library will be closed on Thursday, July 4 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Library will re-open Friday, July 5 at 1 p.m. .

Aliens: Escape from Earth with the Sciencetellers: Tuesday, July 2 at 10 a.m. During a midnight meteor shower, something mysterious falls from the sky toward Earth, but it’s not a shooting star. Two curious kids venture into the forest to investigate and find a family of visitors from another planet. Chased by a crazy space scientist, they risk everything to rescue the aliens and get them back to their spaceship before it’s too late. Don’t miss this action-packed and educational alien adventure using science experiments for special effects. It’s totally out of this world. Tickets ($2) for children and adults are available in the Children’s room. This program is for ages 5 and up.

Minute-to-Win-It: Tuesday, July 2 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Teens and tweens can win  PRIZES in a minute or less. Snacks will be served. Space is limited and registration required for this FREE program. Those in grades 5 to 12 can register online, by phone or in person.

Rockets: There and Back Again with the Museum of Science: Monday, July 8 at 1 or 2 p.m. Young readers will explore the science behind rockets and space exploration as they launch an air rocket and return a payload safely back to earth. Those attending are asked to sign up for only one session. Space is limited and registration is required for this FREE program. Teens and tweens in grades 5 to 12 can register online, by phone or in person.

 Knitting Group: Monday, July 8 at 3 p.m. and Monday, July 22 at 6:30 p.m. This is a drop-in program that is open to all ages. Knitters can bring their latest project and share advice and socialize with other knitters.

Adult Nonfiction Book Club: Tuesday, July 9 (note date change) at 7 p.m. Is truth stranger than fiction? Is it more entertaining? Find out in the Adult Nonfiction Book Club. The group meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Mary Atwood Room. Please note that in July we are meeting one week later than usual. Dates and book titles can be found on the website and at the Information Desk. The July 9 book discussion will be Nixon and Mao by Margaret MacMillan. Copies are available at Main Desk. No registration required.

Family concert with Steve Blunt: Wednesday, July 10 at 11:30 a.m. Library favorite Steve Blunt is here for a family summer concert. Steve delivers a high energy show featuring catchy tunes and bouncy beats. Pack a picnic lunch and rock with us in the grass in back of the library. FREE for all ages. (If it rains, attendees are asked to eat before arriving. The Concert will then be held in the Meeting Room.)

Lowell Spinners Baseball Pass: Looking for a great idea for a fun family outing? Spend a night at the ballgame with the Lowell Spinners. The Friends funded pass admits up to 6 people based on availability.  Visit westfordlibrary.com or call the Library for reservations.

Zoo New England Pass: The Friends funded pass allows residents to choose a trip to the Stone Zoo or the Franklin Park Zoo.  Visitors will view unique animal exhibits, educational displays, conservation programs and entertaining attractions, including playgrounds and a train. Free Mueller Report eBook: The Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) has made “The Report On The Investigation Into Russian Interference In The 2016 Presidential Election,”or the Mueller Report, freely available in ebook format, in the redacted form. Look for the link on the Library web site.

Database of the Week: Readers can learn a new language with Rosetta Stone! Its proven immersion method integrates listening, reading, and speaking.  There are 30 different languages to choose from. Advanced learning levels for each of the languages are now available to Westford patrons.
