U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan (D-Westford) held a forum on Aug. 29 urging her constituents in Lowell and beyond to allow themselves to be included in the U.S. Census Bureau’s 10-year survey of everyone living in the United States, citizen or not.
“I cannot over-state enough how important it is,” Trahan said.
According to a notice she released this week, “as mandated by the U.S. Constitution, the United State Census Bureau counts every person in the country every 10 years. The information from the census helps determine how federal funding is distributed to states and communities. For this reason, it is critically important that we have an inclusive and accurate census count in every community across Massachusetts and the United States.
Billions of dollars in federal funding is at stake if an inaccurate count occurs in 2020. Lowell and the surrounding communities could be deprived of much needed federal dollars that support critical services and programs.”
Trahan represents the third Middlesex District.
