Strategic Plan Focus Group: Monday, March 23 at 7 p.m. The librarians need feedback. This is an opportunity to share your input as the Board of Library Trustees and Library staff embark on the new three-year Library Strategic Plan, mandated by the state, and due in late 2020.  The Library is looking toward the future and seeks your assistance in shaping the vision. No registration required. Light refreshments will be served.

Tween Ozobots Club: Friday, Feb. 28 at 3:30 p.m. Learn to code and explore with Ozobots: teeny tiny robots with BIG possibilities! Monthly Fridays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Grades 5-8. Register here for this free program.

Ukulele Strum Along: Saturday, Feb. 29 at 2 p.m. Back by popular demand! For the beginner ukulele player who wants to practice and play music with others. Patrons can bring their own ukulele or register her, or call the Information Department at 978-399-2304) to borrow one. Open to adults and teens. Singing is encouraged.

Make & Take Mondays: March 2 and March 9. Imagine, create, and participate! Each Monday from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm Teens and Tweens can participate in a variety of hands-on activities that include making fun, seasonal crafts and exploring STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) activities. This is a FREE drop – in event for Teens and Tweens in Grades 5 to 12, registration is NOT required.

Adult Nonfiction Book Club: Tue., March 3 at 7 p.m. Is truth stranger than fiction? Is it more entertaining? Find out in the Adult Nonfiction Book Club. The group meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Mary Atwood Hall. Dates and book titles are on the website and at the Information Desk. Dublin in Song and Story: Thursday, Mar. 5 at 7 p.m. Dublin-born humorist and folksinger Tom O’Carroll tells the tales and sings the songs of his native city. This capital city on the River Liffey has an abundance of history and colorful characters. This is an ideal program for anyone interested in Irish literature. Register here or call 978-399-2304.

Booktalk with Mayleen and Kristina: Friday, March 6 at 1:30 p.m. For those looking for some new reading recommendations or who are growing tired of the same authors.  Readers can join Mayleen and Kristina for an informal “Booktalk.” During this hour they will talk about books both old and new.  No registration required.

Beginners Chess: Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m. In preparation for the new chess club offering for kids in grades 3 to 5, Glenn Davison will teach the fundamentals of chess. In one hour students will learn the basics including: setting up the board, using the pawns, how to move to win and special moves, 10 tips for playing a better game, and how to win a game of chess in four moves. Space is limited to 50; register here. This program is for children in grades 3 to 5 and is generously funded by the Friends of the J.V. Fletcher Library.

J.V. Fletcher Adult Book Club: Thursday March 12 at 7:30 p.m. Red Notice (nonfiction) by Bill Browder will be discussed. Copies are available at the Main Desk. New members are always welcome. No registration required. Check out our Reading List.

An Evening with Susan B. Anthony: Thursday, March 12 at 7 p.m. Meet Susan B. Anthony. Brought to life by performer Sheryl Faye, Anthony was a women’s rights activist who played a prominent role in the women’s suffrage movement, which led to the 19th amendment and gave women the right to vote. This is the 100th year since the 19th Amendment’s ratification and the 200th year of Anthony’s birthday. Includes a Q&A. FREE! Register here or call 978-399-2304.

Advanced Snap Circuits and Takeaparts: Friday, March 13 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. There are five exciting Snap Circuits kits to play with: RC Cars, Light, Motion, Arcade, and 3D Illumination. Register here. This free program is for children in grades 3 to 5.

Stony Brook Middle School Book Club: Wednesdayd,  March 18 at 2 p.m. Library book club open to Stony Brook Middle School teens in grades 6 to 8.  Students actively participate in book discussion and hands-on activities once a month until May 2019 at the Stony Brook Middle School. Patrons can sign-up at the Stony Brook Middle School with the school librarian, Mrs. Smith.

Blanchard Middle School Book Club: Thursday, March 19 at 2 p.m. Library book club open to Blanchard Middle School teens in grades 6 to 8. Students actively participate in book discussion and hands-on activities once a once a month until May 2019 at the Blanchard Middle School Learning Commons. Patrons can sign-up at the Blanchard Middle School with the school librarian, Mrs. Brandt.

English Conversation Circle: every Wed. at 10:30 a.m. Foreign-speaking patrons can practice their English conversation skills and meet new friends in a relaxed and friendly environment. This group is led by Carol Morse, and meets in the Mary Atwood Hall. Registration not required. Any questions, please call 978-399-2309. FREE!
