Brian McGrory, editor of the Boston Globe discusses how the newsroom staffers have been working remotely from their homes since March when the governor of Massachusetts declared a state of emergency due to the Coronavirus. McGrory tells readers what the Globe’s single most read story is, contrasts covering the bombings at the Boston Marathon with covering COVID-19 and says telling the story of the virus is even more challenging because there’s no beginning, middle and end to it.
“There’s no playbook for this,” he said, “they’re learning on the fly.”
Editor’s note: The interview was arranged by Jordan Frias, a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, New England Chapter, and picked up by Westford Community Access TV where the news director serves on the board of SPJ-NE.
