There is no purer or more direct form of democracy than that which was born right here in New England … Town Meeting.  Every day we are witnessing more and more threats to this precious way of life our forebears fought for.  It is with this in mind that I would like to remind the citizens of Westford of our Special Town Meeting on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 9 a.m. which will be held on the athletic field at Westford Academy.
Westford Climate Action, an independent grassroots organization’s goal is to reduce the use of fossil fuel, promote clean and efficient energy, and promote sustainability for the for the health of the planet and for future generations.  The group will present its resolution for a greener Westford at a time when we are seeing the dire effects of global warming every day in the news.  There will be handouts on what you can do as an individual to reduce your carbon footprint and information on Westford’s new cleaner municipal and residential energy contract.
Town Meeting is a place to learn what’s going on in town and maybe even consider becoming more involved.  We need your talents and your voice.  These are strange days and for the sake of democracy there’s no more important time to keep your eye on the ball.  Town Meeting is the place to do it.
See you there! — Carol Morse and Beth Perkins, Westford, Massachusetts
