The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will launch, on May 12, its new Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) program to help families and households which are struggling to afford internet service during the pandemic. The program offers two types of discounts to help low-income households connect to the internet and applies to new, prior, and existing customers of participating vendors.
Beginning May 12, eligible households will be able to enroll in the program to receive a monthly discount off the cost of broadband service from an approved internet service provider. The EBB includes a one-time discount on a connected device if purchased through their internet provider. Eligibility also expands to students who received a Federal Pell Grant during the current award year.
To find out which households are eligible, residents are encouraged to watch the public service announcement below produced by Public Education Government (PEG) channel colleagues at the Plymouth Area Community Television.
