If Dr. Suess had written about Valentine’s Day, it might read something like this: Love doesn’t come in a box, it comes from the folks and the flocks. And since he didn’t, we seek out our own hands-on way to share love.

Whether it’s love of nature, love of family, fauna or feast, Good Pickin’ Farm in partnership with “Team Forever Young” has you covered. The first annual “In the Moo’d–Valentine Fun at the Farm” is scheduled for February 12 at the expansive 5 Gould Road farm.

The fun will happen 2-6 p.m. and includes family activities like hayrides, petting zoo, crafts, snow-painting, sledding and much more. The cost is $10 person, far less than roses or chocolates. And for beer and fare lovers, your passion is here too. Local breweries will serve up suds and concessionaires will have food available.

And the timing of the event aligns nicely with the opening of the new skating rink, constructed by Westford’s Police and Fire Departments. The rink will be open for residents long after the event, throughout the season and will soon offer “learn to skate” lessons by police and fire volunteers.

The Select Board gave approval for the event and farm spokesperson Sandra Habe hopes that this is the first of many Valentine’s Day “In the Moo’d” festivals. The farm will also hold many more events throughout the spring and summer that will be kid-friendly, interactive learning experiences.
