Dear Editor,
I would like to express my appreciation to Westford CAT News and to Alex Svenson who recently joined your team for the excellent, in-depth article on why the inclusion of the history of genocide in the State of Massachusett’s curriculum is of particular importance to our students. No one can disagree with the study of Hitler’s Germany, Pol Pot’s Cambodian Genocide or that of the Ukraine under Stalin as we see threats to democracy world wide. But additionally, Svenson points to the tragic history of the Pennacook peoples who lived here in Westford and the surrounding area in harmony with the land for thousands of years before the arrival of the Europeans in the 1600’s. It is but a small tribute to their existence and way of life.
I appreciate the in-depth reporting and look forward to seeing more on Westford from Mr. Svenson.
Sincerely,
Carol Morse
