WESTFORD — Here’s the April 20 edition of the Wednesday Whiteboard, where WestfordCAT highlights important dates and events during the week in Westford. 

News and upcoming events around town

Brian Maher, a Westford resident, was injured in a car accident on Nov. 27, 2021. Maher’s family is seeking donations to alleviate costs incurred in his treatment and recovery. The family has raised $33,579 at the time of reporting, and is still accepting donations on GoFundMe.

The Westford Museum and Historical Society will be hosting Nicholas Andrews from BSA Troop 159 for a forum on the history of boy scouting in Westford. The session will take place on Sunday, April 24 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Westford Museum.

The Parish Center for the Arts will be hosting Jeff Purchon on Saturday, April 23 at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or in-person. Tickets are $25 for general admission, $21 for seniors and $12 for youth.

The J.V. Fletcher Library will be hosting additional events, found below:

  • Library Garden Installation with Fresh Start Food Gardens: Wed., April 20 at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and 12 p.m.
  • Teen & Tween Upcycled Book Art: Wed., April 20 at 2:00 p.m.
  • Virtual Financial Literacy Workshops for Young Adults: Wed. Apr. 20, all at 7:00 p.m.
  • Terrific Turbines with Katharine Hinkle, Two sessions: Tue., April 21 at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m.
  • Teen & Tween Blackout Poetry: Thu., April 21 at 2:00 p.m.
  • Bollywood Funk Dance Class: Fri., April 22 at 1:00 p.m.
  • Animal Craze Traveling Farm on the Common: Fri., April 22 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Westford Remembers has opened orders for signage honoring local veterans. Signs will be displayed prior to Memorial Day. Sponsors looking to purchase a sign should fill out an order form and send $100 to Westford Remembers. Orders should be received no later than May 13. Westford Climate Action is hosting its Earth Day Celebration on Westford Common on Friday, April 22 from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

WestfordCAT serves to keep you informed ahead of the election. WestfordCAT spoke with J.V. Fletcher Library Board of Trustees incumbent Elizabeth “Buffie” Diercks, as well as incumbent Glen Secor on their reelection.

The station previously spoke with School Committee hopefuls Meghan O’ConnellDerek LoMarisol Garcia and Betsy Kwon, as well as committee incumbent Sean Kelly. In addition, WestfordCAT spoke with Board of Health hopeful Melissa Mackey, as well as incumbents Susan Hanly and Stephanie Granger on their candidacy.

Important municipal dates

The deadline for the Town of Westford to post the Town Election Warrant is Monday, April 25.

The Select Board will vote to close the Town Meeting Warrant on Tuesday, April 26.

Government Meetings

The Board of Registrars will meet on Thursday, April 21 at 2:30 p.m.

The Board of Water Commissioners will meet in-person at 60 Forge Village Road on Thursday, April 21 at 9 a.m.

The Capital Planning Committee will meet virtually on Tuesday, April 26 at 8:30 a.m.

The Community Preservation Committee will meet virtually on Thursday, April 21 at 7 p.m.

The Council on Aging will meet in-person at the Cameron Senior Center on Wednesday, April 20 at 4 p.m.

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee will meet virtually on Thursday, April 21 at 7 p.m.

The Economic Development Committee will meet virtually on Thursday, April 21 at 8:15 a.m.

The Northern Middlesex Council of Governments will meet in-person at 40 Church St., Suite 200 in Lowell. The meeting will have a virtual option as well. The meeting takes place on Wednesday, April 20 at 7 p.m.

The Tax Possession Sale Committee will meet in-person on Thursday, April 21 at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in Town Hall in Conference Room B.

The Zoning Board of Appeals will meet in-person on Wednesday, April 20 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held in Town Hall in Room 201.
