Derek Parker, Blanchard Middle School Teacher

As a civics and government teacher in Westford, I teach my students about the importance of good people stepping up and running for leadership positions in their communities.  Democracy works best when smart, capable, and passionate individuals volunteer to serve in local government.  This is why I support Marisol Garcia for Westford School Committee.  I have known Marisol for more than ten years as our children went through school together and have been consistently impressed by her character, integrity,  and dedication to young people.

Marisol has been a wonderful resource for my students as they conduct research on issues related to education, adolescent mental health, the juvenile justice system, and other related topics. Over the years, she has made herself available for students to interview to get real-world insights into these complex issues.  Every one of those students came back excited about the interview because Marisol made the process comfortable and accessible and gave them a wealth of useful information. She took the time out of her schedule to speak with students she doesn’t know because she cares about young people and these issues and wants to make a difference.

Marisol’s background and experiences make her an ideal candidate for the Westford School Committee.  As the child of immigrants, she understands the experiences and challenges faced by a large portion of our student population. With her professional experience as an advocate for the social, emotional, and educational well-being of children, her understanding of both the mental health system and special education law, and her skills navigating the legislative and budget process, Mari is uniquely qualified and will be a strong presence on the School Committee.

With all of the challenges facing the world and our community, we need qualified, capable leaders in our local government.  Marisol Garcia will provide the leadership we need to build on the past success of the Westford Public Schools while facing contemporary challenges with integrity, honesty, and a focus on what is best for our children.  On May 3, please vote for Marisol Garcia for Westford School Committee.
