WESTFORD — Area fire departments responded to a major crash on 495 Southbound Sunday morning.

Officials encountered a single vehicle occupied by two adults that struck a tree in the median at approximately 9:32 a.m. Occupants were removed from their vehicle by bystanders, according to officials.

Westford Fire Department along with Chelmsford Fire Department treated two patients. An adult male was transported to Boston Medical Center by Boston Medflight and one adult female was transported to Lahey Hospital Trauma Center by Westford ambulance.

Both individuals sustained serious injuries according to officials. Multiple travel lanes were closed as a result of the accident.
