WESTFORD — The Westford Police Department is warning of an aggressive coyote that has been spotted across Westford.

The department has received reports of people being confronted and bitten by an aggressive coyote. Reports note the coyote has been spotted near North Main Street, West Street and Groton Road.

“One report also indicated the coyote attempted to gain access to animals that were in a caged in area,” the department wrote on social media.

Westford Animal Control has been monitoring the area on-foot since the initial sighting on Dec. 23.

Westford Police Department notes that it met with Westford Animal Control, Massachusetts Environmental Police and Westford Health Department on Dec. 27. Each department will continue to take “proactive steps” to locate the animal, according to Westford Police Department social media.

No additional sightings of the coyote have been reported as of Dec. 27.
