Gloria Miller, Westford Resident
Thank you for the opportunity to serve my community as a member of the Westford School Committee for the last six years. During my two terms, I have had the privilege of working with many valued colleagues who embody the qualities of effective Committee members. As I sunset from my position, I would like to offer my full and unequivocal support for the candidacy of William (Bill) McDonald. I believe Bill would be a valuable asset to our town and schools for three reasons:
Bill is a seasoned educational professional. While prior experience is not required to be on School Committee, it can be an asset. Many new members need time to learn educational jargon, pedagogy, and processes, particularly with regard to special education. Given his 15 years of experience as a special educator, Bill has a running start that will decrease the typical learning curve for a new Committee member.
Bill has a thoughtful, balanced perspective. In February, Bill reached out to me to discuss his candidacy. I was impressed by the forethought he put into his decision to run and also his pragmatic approach to consensus building and problem solving. Bill’s varied experiences as a special education aide, teacher and administrator will be invaluable as the Committee navigates ongoing concerns about salaries for our educational professionals and the overall school budget.
Bill is in it for the long haul! As the father of two young children, Bill is committed to serving our community now and into the future. His stated priorities–health and wellness; equity, fairness and integrity; sustainability; and balancing high standards with fiscal responsibility–align well with the new strategic improvement plan. Bill is well-positioned to make valuable contributions as the district pursues these initiatives.

On the upcoming ballot, I encourage you to fill in an oval for William (Bill) Francis McDonald. Please vote on Tuesday, May 2nd and confirm your polling location at Westford Academy or Stony Brook School (http://www.wheredoivotema.com
I look forward to casting my vote for Bill McDonald on May 2nd.
