WESTFORD — Here’s the Sept. 27 edition of Wednesday Whiteboard, where WestfordCAT highlights important dates and events during the week in and around Westford.

News and upcoming events around town

A number of committees have open seats. Apply online.

The Town of Westford is seeking input on a zoning bylaw that would regulate multi-family housing under the MBTA Communities Act.

The Land Use Management Department and MBTA Communities Multi-Family Housing Advisory Committee are looking for input from residents. Please participate by taking the survey. The survey will remain open until Oct. 6.

The Communications Advisory Committee is seeking input on Westford’s cable access offerings. Please participate by taking the survey online.

Voluntary water use restrictions are now in effect. The Water Department requests that odd-numbered addresses water on odd-numbered days between 6 p.m. and 9 a.m and that even-numbered addresses may water on even-numbered days from 6 p.m. and 9 a.m.

The Westford Sportsmen’s Club is celebrating it’s 75th anniversary this weekend. An open house will be held on Sept. 30 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 80 West St.

From WestfordCAT: 

News office hours are on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the J.V. Fletcher Library. Changes will be reflected on our studio calendar.

From Westford Public Schools:

The Westford Public Schools calendar has seen a number of minor updates amid a recently ratified faculty contract that changes the dates of some parent-teacher conferences.

There will be no early release dates or delayed start on Nov. 20 or Nov. 21, with elementary conferences pushed to Dec. 13 and Dec. 14.

Spring conferences for elementary students will still take place on March 18 and March 19, 2024. These days will now be early release days, as opposed to March 19, 2024 following a delayed start schedule.

Middle school conferences will take place on Jan. 10 and Jan. 11, 2024. Both days will be early release days for middle school students.

The department offers BollyX Dance Classes and CPR and First Aid certification for adults this fall and winter. Want something for kids? Check out the LEGO Club or Youth Chess.

From the Friends of the Cameron Senior Center:

Craft fair vendors are wanted for the Harvest Fair on Oct. 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is $15 for an 8-foot table or $6 to share a table. To reserve a space, contact patreppucci@comcast.net.

From the Health Department and Community Wellness Department:

The Health Department is accepting applications for residents to receive $400 per child for the Recreation Department’s after-school program, which began on Aug. 30.

Applications should be emailed to Regional Community Health and Wellness Coordinator Brittany Nash. Applications can also be mailed to Town Hall. Applicants must be Westford residents and be at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level.

Community Wellness Assistance is now available for drop-in hours. Community Wellness Coordinator will be available on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the J.V. Fletcher Library.

From the Parish Center for the Arts:

The Westford Regional Art Event remains open through Oct. 1. Studio hours are:

  • Sept. 28 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

From Westford Climate Action: 

Westford Climate Action will host “Neighbor to Neighbor: Heat Pumps 101” on Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. at the J.V. Fletcher Library.

No registration needed for in-person attendance at the library. For virtual attendance, register online.

Important municipal dates

Special Town Meeting is planned for Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. Preview the warrant online. Article 4 has been removed from the Warrant at the time of reporting.

Government Meetings: 

The Board of Water Commissioners will meet on Sept. 28 at 9 a.m.

The Communications Advisory Committee will meet virtually on Sept. 28 at 3 p.m.

The Lowell Regional Transit Authority will meet virtually on Sept. 28 at 1 p.m.

The MBTA Communities Multi-Family Housing Advisory Committee will meet on Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.

The Planning Board will meet on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. No agenda has been posted at the time of reporting.
