DESCRIPTION:As the trees begin to bloom in the Chelmsford area\, everybody’s thoughts turn to Spring\, and it’s time for the Chelmsford Community Band to celebrate the final performance of their regular season. Join them on Sunday\, May 3\, at 2pm in Chelmsford’s McCarthy Middle School for their annual tradition of a joint performance of the Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble accompanied by the ever-popular “basket” raffle fundraiser. Sections of the band and local businesses have donated fantastic prizes representing various fun and engaging themes. Check out the band’s social media on Facebook\, Instagram\, or BlueSky for sneak peaks at the donations. \nThe Concert Band\, led by Westford resident and Chelmsford band teacher Eric Lindsner\, will present a program themed on travel. The music will take you on a journey both abroad and back home. The Jazz Ensemble will feature swing and jazz favorites\, led by Art Bakopolus. Admission to the concert is free\, but donations are always very gratefully accepted so that the band can continue to operate. Suggested donations are $10 for adults and $20 for families. SUMMARY:The Hosmer Mountain Boys
DESCRIPTION:The Hosmer Mountain Boys are a retro bluegrass band that is quickly rising in the New England Bluegrass scene and having a lot of fun in the process. They were voted the “Fan Favorite” at the 2023 Podunk Bluegrass Festival\, performed in Lexington (KY) on WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour\, and crossed the pond for the 2024 Battlefield Bluegrass Festival in England. Keegan (guitar) and Simon (banjo) met at Mando Camp North in 2018 at age 16 and instantly connected over their passion for Flatt & Scruggs. Red Day\, (mandolin) has recently been added to the band this season. Cathy Bumgarner Day (fiddle) and Tom Bowman (bass) complete the lineup with decades of regional bluegrass experience. Simon (banjo) has been described by some attendees at the Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival in Brunswick\, ME\, as Connecticut’s best‑kept secret. You’ll hear that Keegan’s major guitar‑picking influences include Riley Pucket\, Don Reno\, and the thumb‑picking style of Lester Flatt. DESCRIPTION:Rooted in rural New England since the age of ten\, McCarthy grew up in towns where the economies teetered on marginal subsistence from logging and paper and woolen mills. Growing up in Salem (MA)\, Aidan was inspired by the energy and talent of the local North Shore music scene and started performing locally at restaurants and jazz clubs as a teenager. After spending a couple years at New England Conservatory\, he graduated with a B.A. in Performance & Representation from Tufts University. He is perhaps best known as Tony Bennett’s most recent pianist and musical director\, appearing in concerts with him until his retirement in 2020. Featured on over 100 recordings to date\, Tim has performed in concert with an extensive list of pop music icons\, notably Aretha Franklin\, Lyle Lovett\, Jane Siberry and Soul Asylum. He regularly performs with leading figures in the jazz world\, among them Kurt Elling\, Gary Burton\, Esperanza Spalding\, Phil Woods\, Terri Lyne Carrington\, Scott Hamilton\, Dave Douglas\, John Patitucci\, Brian Blade\, Lewis Nash and Rufus Reid; and his classical credits include solo performances and concerts with Gunther Schuller\, the Boston Pops\, and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project. Tim’s busy schedule has included frequent tours throughout the Americas\, Canada\, Mexico\, Europe\, Asia\, and the Middle East\, and has included performances at Carnegie Hall\, the White House\, the Kennedy Center and the 1992 Presidential Inauguration.
