SUMMARY:Holiday Concert with the Chelmsford Community Band
DESCRIPTION:Get your holiday cheer properly established with the Chelmsford Community Concert Band at their annual holiday concert Sunday\, December 15th\, at 2pm at McCarthy Middle School. This year’s program includes the requisite favorites like Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” and the magnificently powerful “Russian Christmas Music” by Alfred Reed\, but there are also multiple pieces that switch things up. The band will be casting familiar songs into a minor key with Lovrien’s “Minor Alterations\,” mashing them up in “Stars and Stripes for Christmas\,” and casting them into a New Orleans jazz feel with “A New Orleans Nutcracker Suite.” This performance also features stunning vocal solos and is not to be missed. \nAdmission to the concert is free\, but donations are always very gratefully accepted so that the band can continue to operate. Suggested donations are $10 for adults and $20 for families. There will also be a fundraising raffle of fun seasonal items and baked goods available for an additional donation. \nHaving recently celebrated its golden anniversary\, the Chelmsford Community Band has a 60-piece concert band and a 20-piece jazz ensemble made of dedicated volunteer musicians with a proud tradition of bringing live musical performances to this community since 1972. They are supported by grants from the Mass Cultural Council\, local towns\, and your donations. DESCRIPTION:In the spring and summer of 1774\, news had reached Boston that Britain’s Parliament had invoked several measures in retaliation for the Destruction of the Tea in Boston Harbor\, known as the “Intolerable Acts”. Samuel Adams and the Boston committee of correspondence developed a non-importation pledge known as the “Solemn League and Covenant”. The Covenant called for its signers to halt the purchase of British goods after August 31st. Westford was one of a small number of towns that supported the pledge. \nJoin Dan Lacroix as he looks at the history behind the document\, Westford’s original copy\, and the wide range of men who signed their names to the pledge and how they set Westford apart from other Massachusetts towns. \nDan Lacroix is a student of Westford’s 18th century history and webmaster of “westford1775.org“\, a resource for Westford’s Revolutionary period history. \nWhat is Westford 250? In 2025 the nation will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the start of the Revolutionary War. There are many techniques folks can utilize to meaningfully look at their current relationships from a new perspective. Once we have a new perspective\, we can build upon that to strategize setting healthy new boundaries for those relationships. We will also take a look at conflict in relationships and work with an imagery tactic where the relationship problem is like a wall in front of you and you and the other person are on the same side of that wall working on the problem side by side. \nCoping strategies and plans for self-care are also key to building healthy patterns that are a new framework upon which you can build. During this session we will walk through these techniques to see how they be used to help you and your loved ones cope. \nDuring these sessions\, it will be our intention to allow folks to express feelings around election concerns but to avoid getting involved in discussions on details regarding election topics as they are triggering for many. We will talk about practical and actionable strategies for self-care and self-preservation. \nOpen to folks high school and older who are LGBTQ+ or allies in Westford & surrounding towns.

SUMMARY:Election Season Survival Series 2024: Activism & Creative Pursuits
DESCRIPTION:It’s a tumultuous Presidential Election season. Let’s cope together in this bi-weekly group ELECTION SEASON SURVIVAL Series support group open to high school and older LGBTQ+ folks or allies in Westford & the surrounding local towns. We will meet every 2 weeks with a different focus for each meeting. Each meeting will feature a topic or issue tied to strategies to cope with political stress.Meetings typically begin with a speaker and are followed by Q&A or open discussion. \nEach week has a unique topic or focus. August 15 we focus on Activism & Creative Pursuits. There are many techniques folks can utilize to take action towards changing things or being creative to allow them to move away from the feeling of being a victim to taking charge into a role of being a source of positive change. We will take a look at how activities such as getting involved with community efforts and being creative activate new feelings and self-perceptions. \nCoping strategies and plans for self-care are also key to building healthy patterns that are a new framework upon which you can build. During this session we will walk through these techniques to see how they be used to help you and your loved ones cope. \nDuring these sessions\, it will be our intention to allow folks to express feelings around election concerns but to avoid getting involved in discussions on details regarding election topics as they are triggering for many. We will talk about practical and actionable strategies for self-care and self-preservation.
