Junior Ghosts Post Several Wins Against Lowell

Westford Jr. Ghosts Patriot Team 18 vs. Lowell 26

The Ghosts had a back and forth struggle with Lowell with the lead changing four times during the game.

Lowell scored first, but Westford came back to within a point when Cam Barisano scored on a keeper.  At the end of the half, Kyle Sweeney and Colin Slafkosky teamed up for a 10-yard Lowell loss to kill their drive going into the locker room.

After the Westford cheerleaders entertained the crowd during the half-time show, Westford got the lead when Barisano connected to Tommy Olmstead for a 97-yard touchdown pass. Lowell came back, but Westford retook the lead on a touchdown run by Tyler Bella.

Other key offensive highlights included a 21-yard pass to Dan Wilson and multiple passes to Olmstead.  Bella and Wilson took turns racking up yardage on numerous runs.  Offensive blockers – Nick Lofria, Jeff Battle, Jakob Simas, Jon Magee, Colin Slafkosky, Justin Quinton, and Liam Shockley – did a great job of holding the Lowell defense at bay.

Defensively, Battle, Simas, and Bella threw down many tackles including several to stop Lowell drives.  Magee, Slafkosky, Chet Herget, and Jacob Stanglewicz also all contributed tackles.

Westford B Team 28 vs Lowell 12

The Westford Junior Ghosts B Team kicked it into high gear this past Sunday. The boys came in and made their presence known with great teamwork by all.

Steven Tubianosa charged through with touchdowns in the first and second quarters. Brent Robinson added another touchdown in the second quarter. Lowell couldn’t seem to keep up with Jake Gross’ massive runs throughout the entire game.

Ryan Canha and Christian Ruggiero showed some great blocking throughout the game. Kevin Nephew and Luke Stocker kept the pressure on Lowell’s offensive line.

Kenny Tashjy plowed his way into the endzone with a touchdown during the 4th quarter keep the Ghosts ahead. Jason Mendonca flew through the air to make an exciting tackle that represented the passion and pride the Jr. Ghosts played with on Sunday.

The team also wants to thank our wonderful Cheerleaders who represent the WJG with all their spirit during the game!

Westford C Team 38 vs Lowell 0

The Jr. Ghost Offense exploded on Sunday, getting a host of different players on the score sheet. Nathaniel Damiani connected with Devin Crogan for touchdown reception.   Rowan Ruggiero carried several Red Raiders on his back into the end zone.  Brian Scannell took a toss around the end for a score.  Alec Morgan turned a short gain into a long touchdown run with several fine cut-back moves.  John Clark showed some nifty moves on a touchdown run and Justin Lokere plunged up the middle to close out the scoring.  Devin Crogan added a point after conversion on a pass from Mikey Kennedy and Robbie Raboin scored a conversion on a hard run up the middle.  The Defense was stout with Matty Acabbo and Mike Morash leading the charge.  Westford travels to Methuen to battle the Rangers on Sunday.

Westford D Team 35 vs. Lowell 6

It was a perfect day for a football game and Westford’s D Team came to Cawley Stadium ready to play.

Captains Jack Ohanian, Jack Gould, Luke Fremault and William Stodden led Westford to a 35-6 win over Lowell. Westford’s defense caused multiple turnovers and prevented Lowell from finding their side of the field for almost the entire game.

Luke Reynolds and Ryan Blagg led the first half offense to score the first three touchdowns. Strong blocking by Elliot Bradley, Daniel Hickey, Nick Manzi and Asher Ryba helped Westford advance to the end zone and capture a 21-0 lead over Lowell early in the game.

Luke Fremault was unstoppable as he took down Lowell’s quarterback three times and forced another turnover before the halftime whistle blew.

In the second half, running back Jason Pillion helped Westford gain yards. The defensive line led by Henry Babineau, Jack Gould, Nate Brown and Tyler Murray limited Lowell to short gains and helped to maintain good field position in Lowell territory. Daniel Hickey and Cole Barisano were relentless in their pursuit of the Lowell offense to make two punishing tackles. Lowell was able to squeak out a touchdown with just 20 seconds left in the game but Westford’s defense prevented the extra point.

Westford E Team vs. Lowell

In its last two games, Westford’s suffocating defense repeatedly shut down nearly all of its opponents’ offensive drives. The Lowell Red Raiders met the same fate on Sunday, as Westford forced multiple turnovers and stifled Lowell’s attempts to move the ball.

Again and again, the Red Raiders’ runners met a maroon wall of Jr. Ghosts, led by Mason Bergeron, Ben Schaffer, Tanner Whitehouse, Peter Burdin, Alex Wilson and Charlie Bonenfant.

The defensive swarm came alive on Lowell’s outside rushing attempts, which were hauled down by the relentless team tackling of Owen Crann, Kaden Silton, Thurman Hargrove, Orion Saunders and Jack Herrmann.

As in previous games, the Jr. Ghosts put together a solid, balanced effort, executing well on both sides of the ball.

With key backs Matthew Morash, Tommy Galvin, Andrew Stodden and Bobby MacCormack able to slash through the Red Raiders defense at will, multiple runners got the chance to grind out tough yardage. Trey Durham, Tony Babineau, and Aiden Murphy were among the Jr. Ghosts who contributed rushing attempts.

Up front on the offensive line, Carter Scanlan, Odin Scott, Xenia Khusid, TJ Kane and Alex Wilson kept the Red Raiders out of the backfield and paved the way for multiple long runs.
