Westford Unemployment Rate Still Lower Than State Average

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development announced last week that Westford’s unemployment rate continued to outpace the state as a whole, dropping to 4 percent.

According to the release, Westford had 482 unemployed people in February, a drop from 488 in January. Employees among the labor force also rose from 11,345 in January to 11,482 in February.

At this time last year, Westford had a 5 percent unemployment rate.

The Commonwealth as a whole reported a 5.4 percent unemployment rate, falling from a 5.6 percent rate in January and a 6.6 percent rate in February 2014.

Westford’s results were comparable to its neighbors, with Groton, Littleton, Dunstable and Acton all reporting unemployment rates just under 4 percent and Chelmsford reporting a 4.4 percent rate. Tyngsborough came in at 5.2 percent.

Statewide, Brookline had the lowest municipal unemployment rate at 2.6 percent while Provincetown had the highest unemployment rate at 28.6 percent. Among municipalities with more than 10,000 people, Fall River had the highest unemployment rate at 10.8 percent.
