The Massachusetts Department of Transportation recently announced infrastructure improvements impacting Pan Am Railways, but it appears these improvements will not impact Westford.
According to the announcement, Catania Spagna will receive $500,000 in grant funding for a rail siding track expansion as well as unloading improvements in Ayer for Pan Am Railways facilities there.
Pan Am, which regularly transports freight by train through Westford, has told WestfordCAT News that the expansion will not have any impact on the amount or frequency of trains in Westford, the improvements are only intended to streamline processing in Ayer.
The expansion was one of five projects totaling just over $2 million across the state as part of the 2015 Industrial Rail Access Program or IRAP.
