Last weekend, a group calling itself “Westford Girls For A Better Tomorrow” helped raise $1,800 to benefit Greater Lowell’s Habitat For Humanity organization.
Approximately 80 people participated in a walk-a-thon organized by the group, which was held at the track behind the Stony Brook School.
The group, which consists of 11 local third-grade girl scouts and several adults acting in an assisting role, began planning the event as far back as January.
Although rain caused the event to end slightly before its scheduled ending point, event co-leader Jenn Smagula
“From every perspective it was a success,” said Smagula. “We didn’t have a target amount, we thought we’d maybe get $500.”
The money raised will go toward two homes being built this fall in Westford.
Despite the event’s success, no follow up events have been planned as of yet by the group, although Smagula noted that the girls were unlikely to rule out future events since she and others saw it as a positive experience.
