A good Moderator does their homework. A good Moderator is a good listener. A good moderator understands budgets, bylaws and the rules. Don Siriani does his homework to ensure he understands all sides of an issue. He does not task others to do this work, and he is relentless and thorough in researching what the rules and laws are and how they may apply to any given situation. It is his tenacity for seeking fair and open dialogue, that will benefit Westford and why I am voting for Don Siriani for Town Moderator.
The Town Moderator relies on reading a room and maintaining order. It is a delicate balance for sure, one that Don Siriani will execute extremely well. With his longstanding civic involvement in Westford and with his wife Debra’s family history, going back over 200 years in Westford, he is poised to take on the job as Moderator as Ellen Harde is retiring.
One of Don’s best qualities is his willingness to listen. I have personally worked with Don Siriani on several issues and he never assumes anything. He listens carefully and if asked a question that he does not know the answer to, he will admit it and then research the issue and find the correct answer. A good Moderator needs to be a good listener and strive to have transparency and honesty and be willing to do the necessary research to fully understand the laws and rules.
Don’s experience has made him a valued member of our community. He has served the town of Westford well as a present member of the Board of Selectmen and past member of the School Committee and knows how the town of Westford functions. Town Meeting has two primary responsibilities in establishing the annual budget for all town departments and creating and amending bylaws, which are both important to know and understand as the Town Moderator. His experience provides him a firsthand knowledge of the warrant, motions, articles and quorums. All critical components of Town Meeting. The town of Westford will be greatly served by Don Siriani as Town Moderator.
