Editor’s note: Health Director Jeff Stephens addressed the lack of vaccine doses available for the COVID-19 virus at the March 8 Board of Health meeting. Here’s what he said:
“As all of us know, we still have not received any vaccine at the local level to vaccinate people. We have once again even today put in for 1,200 vaccines to hopefully vaccinate all our teachers and support staff of not only Westford public schools but Nashoba Tech as well. We don’t know if we’re going to get those. We are going to make an assumption we won’t because we have been turned down nearly every single time,,,
Nashoba Tech continues to be ready and willing and able to be a great partner to the Westford public schools as soon as we could get it. We even broached the idea of trying to do nine school districts because Nashoba Tech has nine school districts within it and there was some buy in from the other school districts to do so. But that request that I made has not even been responded to at the state level.
But I thought maybe there’s a shot. We could do that.
As far as other people getting vaccinated, the CVS in Westford now is doing vaccinations. You need to log on. That particular site, like many of them, is already spoken for. The mass vaccination sites, including the one at 1001 Pawtucket Boulevard, are steadily pushing people through.
I would recommend just be patient. Log on, wait for an appointment and sooner or later you will get it because they are vaccinating a fair number of people throughout the Commonwealth right now. That’s the best we can do right now.” — Jeff Stephens
