Derek Lo would be a valuable addition to the Westford School Committee because of his unique perspective and experience. As a five-year veteran on the School Committee, I humbly offer my unequivocal and enthusiastic support for Derek’s candidacy.

As a Westford Academy Class of 2018 alumni, Derek brings the lived experience of a WPS student from kindergarten through 12th grade. And as a soon to be graduate of George Washington University, Derek has the vantage point of being able to reflect back on how Westford prepares students for college and beyond. This combination provides Derek with the ability to relate to the current student experience, while also giving him vital insights into what our school system does well and where improvements are needed.  

Throughout college, Derek has remained connected to and engaged with the Westford community. Derek has served on the Town Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee for the past two years and served as co-chair for its Education subcommittee. This experience of serving on a town board not only provides valuable preparation, but also demonstrates Derek’s deep and ongoing commitment to Westford. At the League of Women Voters’ Candidates’ Forum, Derek articulated a clear understanding of the current issues facing our schools and wisdom beyond his years. Derek’s campaign has focused on issues of student health and wellness, student success, and DEI needs. As a young person and a son of Asian-American immigrants, Derek has been and will continue to be an invaluable advocate and role model for all Westford students.

As a Westford School Committee member, I am proud to have one of our young alumni volunteering to serve the community where he was raised and educated, and as a fellow resident, I look forward to casting my vote for Derek Lo on May 3rd.
