WESTFORD — The Select Board reviewed Citizen Activity Forms and appointed members to the Robinson School Building Committee last Tuesday.
The Massachusetts School Building Authority invited Westford to enter into an eligibility phase for potential grant funding. This funding could go toward the repair, renovation, expansion and/or replacement of the Colonel John Robinson Elementary School. To do this they needed to form a School Building Committee to oversee and facilitate the proposed project, they voted to establish the Robinson School Building Committee.
The committee would start a five to seven-year process of studying use cases for the building. Last year, MSBA invited Westford Public Schools into a 270 eligibility, which could qualify the district for grant funding for the facility.
Colonel John Robinson Elementary School requires exterior and interior replacements and repairs including updated plumbing, fire protection, heating and ventilation and electrical systems, as reported by WestfordCAT in January.
The school was one of the 19 chosen to participate in the grant process last year.
Those who spoke at the meeting included Allison Cammarata, Judith Culver, Kaitlyn Mackinnon, Kimberly Moran, George Murray, Meghan O’Connell, Rick Posch, Lindsay Richard, Stephen Taylor and Robert William Tivey.
After hearing them speak, Select Board Chair Scott Hazelton suggested appointing three members instead of the suggested two.
“It’s actually an embarrassment of riches because there’s a lot of people here with a lot of different but applicable qualifications,” Hazelton said.
The board agreed to change the suggested amount of appointed members from two to three because of the abundance of great candidates.
The board unanimously appointed on three candidates: Allison Cammarata, Lindsay Richard and Stephen Taylor.
The board then appointed Thomas Clay as the Select Board member for the Robinson School Committee with John Cunningham as the alternate.
