WESTFORD — A nationwide cybersecurity breach that impacted several districts also impacted Westford Public Schools.

On Jan. 7, the district was informed by PowerSchool, a software vendor that handles the district’s student information system that a data breach occurred on its platform in late December of last year.

According to a news release from the town, the vendor has “assured the school administration that it is conducting a comprehensive and ongoing investigation” and has contacted law enforcement in its response.

The company stated that it has taken steps to increase security measures across its platform and does not anticipate data being shared or made public.

Other district systems are not believed to have been impacted.

“Although there is currently no evidence of impact to the district’s other systems, both school and town administrations remain proactive and vigilant, working closely with PowerSchool to monitor this matter and any further developments and ensure the continued security of all systems,” the news release read.

Officials are and PowerSchool are working closely to monitor new developments the company will update officials as new information becomes available during its investigation.
