WESTFORD — The Westford Select Board on Tuesday congratulated the Westford Academy Girls’ Cross Country Team for capturing the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 1 State Championship, marking the first time in school history the team has won the title.
“This is an amazing feat to be state champions, and cross country is a grueling sport. My hat’s off to all those girls,” said Select Board Chair Scott Hazelton.
As WestfordCAT reported, the team was honored at the Massachusetts State House, where they received a tour of the House and Senate Chambers. They also met with Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll and attended a luncheon hosted by State Rep. James Arciero and State Sen. John Cronin.
In addition to the team, WA cross country coaches Phil Archambault, Paul Hajjar, Scott Hafferkamp, and Athletic Director Jeff Bunyon, along with WA senior Jack Graffeo, who won the individual MIAA Division 1 state championship for the third consecutive year, also participated in the tour.
